Zacatecas, Plata De La Nueva España

Los españoles fundaron esta ciudad en 1546 tras  descubrir metales preciosos en la región y desde entonces pasó a convertirse en la sostén de la Corona al proveerla de plata durante siglos. Este hecho iba a condicionar el devenir histórico de este fascinante y elegante enclave del antiguo virreinato de la Nueva España cargado de arquitectura colonial, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, en medio de un terreno salpicado de cactus al borde de los semidesiertos de norte de México. 
Hay que subir al llamado cerro de la Bufa que despunta sobre la ciudad para disfrutar de una panorámica soberbia  de una masa urbana de cantera rosácea con tejados, calles y callejuelas entre los cuales emergen las torres de sus iglesias. Hasta allí, donde también se encuentra un interesante conjunto monumental, se llega en un funicular que parte de un lugar próximo a la histórica mina del Edén.  
Pero quizá lo más interesante de Zacatecas está precisamente en su entramado urbano. Su centro histórico está abarrotado de magníficos edificios coloniales, una imponente catedral, empinadas calles, señoriales mansiones y rincones llenos de encanto.
No existe una ruta prefijada sino que todo invita a deambular por unas calles con una clara herencia hispana: portales de Rosales, avenida Hidalgo, templos de Santo Domingo y de San Agustín, plaza de Armas y Palacio de Gobierno. Sin duda la verdadera plata de la Nueva España.
