At least two Tigers were killed in an exchange of fire between the Police Commandos and the LTTE in the Kodumadu lagoon in Kalavanchikuddi.
According to Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara the STF personnel had spotted a boat in the lagoon and ordered those in the boat to alight.
"Pretending that they obeyed the orders of the Police Commandos, the Tiger cadres moved out from the boat and suddenly started firing at them. But the STF men fired back and the boat exploded leaving two LTTE cadres dead," he said.
STF men recovered the two dead bodies and a haul of weapons with a T-56 assault rifle and a small quantities of explosives he said.

Three LTTE cadres hiding in a Vel Cart in a temple in Kandarodai, Chunnakam had hurled a grenade at four soldiers who were inspecting it on suspicion and fled, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.
No one was injured in the blast.
Subsequently, troops searched the Vel cart and recovered a haul of weapons and ammunition including a micro pistol, and one 40 mm grenade launcher, he said.
Head of suicide bomber with Police

The CID on Friday informed Mt. Lavinia Magistrate and Additional District Judge Dharshika Wimalasiri that the head of the female suicide bomber, which was retrieved at the Fort Railway Station bomb blast in February this year, is still preserved along with her clothes and had been subjected to a DNA test.
Four suspects including a former director of the National Film Corporation and a suspected black tiger cadre were arrested in connection with the incident which killed some railway passengers including seven students of D. S. Senanyake Maha Vidyalaya who were returning to Colombo after a base ball match in Kandy.
The suspects in remand were identified as Stanislaus Norman Kannan, Kanagasabai Devadasan, a Film Corporation Director, Paramajothi Sathyasilan and Krishanthi Reginald Perera the boarding mistress of the house where some of the suspects were lodged.
SI Fernando of Wellawatte Police along with CID led evidence.
The case will be again taken up on October 2.
