At least 46 LTTE cadres were killed and 16 suffered injuries due to Wednesday’s clashes in Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Welioya and Vavuniya fronts, the Defence Ministry said.
Five soldiers have laid their lives for defending the motherland while another 34 suffered injuries, it said.
Meanwhile, combat helicopters of the air force targeted the LTTE’s bunkers in Kilinochchi and Welioya area yesterday.
The first raid was launched around 7.00 am when air force MI 24 helicopters carried out air strikes on LTTE bunker line in East of Nachchikudah area. These air strikes were made to support the 58 Division troops who are advancing into Kilinochchi area.
In the second bombing the air force carried out air strikes using combat helicopters on the LTTE who were building bunkers near North of Thannimuruppukulam tank area in Welioya around 11 am yesterday.
This was launched in support of the troops of the 59 Division conducting their missions in the area.
