Científicos descubren que las arañas lobo árticas están duplicando su producción de huevos debido a que el clima es ahora más cálido.
Científicos de todo el mundo ya han estudiado cómo el clima extremo hace que las arañas sean más agresivas, y ahora también están notando que puede aumentar el número de arácnidos. 
Un nuevo estudio publicado en la revista Royal Society Open Science revela que las arañas lobo del ártico (pardosa glacialis) están experimentando un auge demográfico en las crías debido al impacto del cambio climático en el Ártico.
Científicos de Dinamarca, Estados Unidos y Canadá trabajaron con el investigador principal Toke T. Hoye del Centro de Investigación del Ártico y el Departamento de Biociencia de la Universidad de Aarhus en el nuevo estudio publicado en junio de 2020. En la Estación Zackenberg Research en Groenlandia, los científicos observaron poblaciones de arañas lobo en el área entre 1996 y 2014 y notaron que estaban poniendo muchos más huevos a medida que el Ártico experimentaba un clima más cálido.
Las arañas lobo hembra tejen sus huevecillos en un saco especial, y cada saco de huevos considerado como un solo empaque. Los investigadores descubrieron que las arañas lobo en el Ártico solían poner una nidada de huevos, pero colocaron dos nidadas al año a medida que la región comenzó a tener tramos más largos de clima más cálido.
El estudio, que se extendió a lo largo de 19 años, no solo mostró que las arañas lobo estaban incubando huevos dos veces al año, sino que también incubaban grandes cantidades de huevos en un segundo lote.
Las arañas hembras también se están haciendo más grandes. "Observamos que el deshielo anterior también está llevando a un mayor tamaño del cuerpo femenino en la misma especie de araña", afirmó el estudio.
Según el estudio, las arañas lobo árticas se sientan en la parte superior de la cadena alimentaria de los invertebrados y no tienen depredadores de insectos naturales en el Ártico. Las arañas lobo no hacen telarañas, sino que cazan presas en el suelo. Las arañas lobo que viven en el Ártico comen principalmente insectos que viven en el suelo y también comen otras arañas.
