Troops inflict heavy losses on LTTE- The Island- 2008/10/21

The LTTE suffered heavy losses in fierce battles with security forces at Manaiyamkulam in Kilinochchi on Sunday, the Media Center for National Security said.

The exact figures of LTTE cadres killed and injured were not immediately available, but it should be a heavy toll, the MCNS said.

Meanwhile, the troops of the 56 Division, destroyed a Tiger bunker line in Villapallaikulam in Vavuniya. The search operations conducted in liberated areas in Akkarayankulam, Vavuniya troops found large stocks of arms and live ammunition.

Tigers have built trench lines in some places to thwart the army’s thrust but the troops had been able to penetrate them, military sources said.
