Police intelligence has warned all security forces personnel in the Northern, Eastern and North Central provinces to be careful in the use of drinking water since they have received reports that wells and other sources of drinking water for the armed forces and the Police could be poisoned by the LTTE.
The CID is investigating the food poisoning at the Senanigala Camp at Dehiattakandiya where 280 soldiers fell sick after consuming meals supplied by a contractor.
Initial investigations are directed at ascertaining whether cyanide could have been mixed with the meals partaken by the soldiers.
The supplier of the meals and the cooks who prepared the meals are being questioned by the CID.
Except for a few soldiers, the majority have been discharged from the hospitals, Army sources said.
